About these pages
Cupcakes iced, topped and shared: a cupcake with a cherry on top, one with sprinkles, one with a single birthday candle and one with a unicorn horn. A boy baker frosts a batch, a princess carries a tray of cupcakes, a party bear holds one and a unicorn sells them at a market stall. Seasonal toppers include a Christmas tree and a winking bat. The detailed pages show a cupcake with piped rose frosting, one with a lace pattern wrapper and cupcakes on a tall tiered stand.
There are 7 easy pages for ages two to four, 16 for ages four to eight and 5 detailed pages for older kids and adults. Let children choose a flavour first, pink for strawberry or brown for chocolate, and give every sprinkle its own colour. The pleated paper case is good practice for colouring neatly between lines. For more sweet things, see the food pages, the candy pages and the ice cream pages.
Each design is its own page with a Letter and an A4 PDF, a description, and related pages, so you can print one sheet or a whole set.
Questions
What is the difference between a cupcake and a muffin?
A cupcake is a small sponge cake, usually sweeter and topped with icing or frosting. A muffin is denser and less sweet, often made with fruit or bran, and is normally served without icing.
What is a cupcake called in the UK?
Small iced sponges in paper cases are traditionally called fairy cakes in Britain. They are usually smaller with a thin layer of icing, while cupcake now tends to mean the larger American style with a tall swirl.
How do I make frosting look piped?
Colour each swirl in a light shade, then go over the lower edge of every coil with a darker shade of the same colour. The contrast makes the ridges stand out, which works well on the piped rose cupcake.
Can I print on A4 paper?
Yes. Every page has a Letter and an A4 version. Pick the one that matches your printer.
