How to Print Coloring Pages (Letter or A4, Settings and Paper)
Open the page's PDF, choose the paper size you have loaded (US Letter in the US, Canada, Mexico and the Philippines; A4 in most other countries), set portrait orientation and either Actual size (100%) or Fit to page, then print. Every coloringpark.com page has half-inch margins, so either scaling option keeps the whole drawing on the sheet.
Should I print coloring pages on Letter or A4 paper?
Use whichever size is in your printer. Every page on the site comes as a vector PDF in both sizes, so you never have to resize anything yourself.
- US Letter is 8.5 x 11 inches. It is the standard size in the United States, Canada, Mexico and the Philippines.
- A4 is 210 x 297 mm. It is the standard size in most other countries, including the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, India and most of Europe.
- A4 is slightly narrower and taller than Letter, which is why a file made for one size can look a little off on the other.
If you are not sure which paper you have, check the packet, or look at the paper size your printer's settings already show.
What printer settings should I use for coloring pages?
The print dialog looks different on every computer, but these are the settings that matter.
- Paper size: Letter or A4, matching the PDF you opened and the paper in the tray.
- Orientation: portrait.
- Scale: Actual size (100%) or Fit to page. With half-inch margins built into each page, either works; Fit is a safe choice if you are unsure.
- Colour: black and white or greyscale. The pages are black line art, and this setting avoids using colour ink.
- Quality: draft mode is fine for Easy pages with thick lines. Use normal quality for Detailed pages so thin lines and small patterns print solid.
- Sides: single-sided. Markers can show through, which spoils a page printed on the back.
How do I print coloring pages from a phone or tablet?
Phones and tablets print best from the PDF, not from the web page itself. Your printer usually needs to be on the same Wi-Fi network as the device.
- iPhone and iPad: open the PDF, tap the Share button, choose Print, select your AirPrint printer, set the number of copies and tap Print.
- Android: open the PDF, tap the menu or Share button, choose Print, then select your printer. If it does not appear, add it through the default print service or the Mopria Print Service in your print settings.
- Either device: the Print now button on each page is the quickest route if your browser supports printing directly.
Step-by-step instructions for each device are in how to print coloring pages from a phone or iPad.
How do I print a whole theme at once?
Each theme can be downloaded as a PDF pack of up to 40 pages with a cover page, which is easier than printing pages one at a time.
Before printing a full pack, check you have enough paper and ink. To skip the cover, enter a page range that starts at page 2. To print just a few favourites, type their page numbers separated by commas, such as 3, 7, 12.
Why is my coloring page cut off, faint or blank?
Most printing problems come from a size mismatch or from printing the web page instead of the PDF.
- Edges cut off: the paper size in the print dialog does not match your paper. Choose the correct size, or select Fit to page.
- Faint or grey lines: draft, eco or toner-save mode is on. Switch to normal quality. If lines are still patchy, the printer may need a nozzle check or new ink.
- Blank or tiny page: you printed the web page rather than the drawing. Open the PDF and print from there.
- Website buttons or text on the printout: the same cause. Open the PDF instead of printing the browser tab.
- Drawing off-centre: turn off any custom margins or offsets in the dialog and print at Actual size or Fit to page.
When should I use the PNG instead of the PDF?
Use the PDF for printing. It is a vector file, so lines stay sharp at any size, and the margins are already set.
Use the 300 dpi PNG when you need an image, for example to place a picture into a document or worksheet you are making for your own family or class. At full-page size, 300 dpi prints with clean lines.
Questions
Can I print the Letter version on A4 paper?
Yes. Choose Fit to page and it will print slightly smaller with uneven white edges. Downloading the A4 version gives a better fit.
Do I need to sign up or pay to print coloring pages?
No. Pages are free for personal and classroom use, with no sign-up and no watermark. You only supply the paper and ink.
Why does my printer use colour ink on black-and-white pages?
Some printers mix colour inks to make black unless you choose black and white or greyscale in the print settings. Selecting that option keeps colour cartridges for other jobs.
Can I colour a page without printing it?
Yes. Use the Color it online button to fill, brush and erase on screen, then save the result as a PNG or print it later.
