About these pages
Umbrellas out in the rain and the wind: a boy and girl sharing an umbrella, a girl under a polka dot umbrella, three children huddled under one big umbrella and a boy splashing in a puddle. Animals shelter too, with a dinosaur holding an umbrella in the rain, a turtle under an umbrella and a fox staying dry. A girl stands with her umbrella in falling autumn leaves, and another stands under a starry sky.
There are 3 easy pages with thick outlines for ages two to four and 18 for ages four to eight. Big umbrella canopies are good for practising patterns, such as stripes, spots or a different colour in each section. Alphabet pages, including tracing for U is for umbrella, suit a letter of the week, and the rainy scenes fit a weather topic. For more, see the rainbow pages, the alphabet pages and the fall pages.
Each design is its own page with a Letter and an A4 PDF, a description, and related pages, so you can print one sheet or a whole set.
Questions
Where does the word umbrella come from?
It comes from the Latin word umbra, meaning shade. The earliest umbrellas, used thousands of years ago in places such as ancient Egypt and China, were mostly for keeping off the sun.
How do I colour rain on an umbrella page?
Draw short, slanted lines in light blue or grey across the sky, and add a pale blue puddle at the bottom. A bright umbrella in red or yellow then stands out against the grey.
How can I use umbrella pages in a weather lesson?
Talk about what to wear and carry in rain, wind or sun while children colour. The rainy scenes, the falling leaves page and the starry sky page give different weather and times of day to compare.
Can I print on A4 paper?
Yes. Every page has a Letter and an A4 version. Pick the one that matches your printer.
