About these pages
Poppies for Remembrance and for the garden: children placing poppies on a memorial, a remembrance wreath of poppies and laurel, and a poppy bouquet with doves and stars. Field scenes show a poppy field under a sunny sky, poppies growing in a wild meadow and a sunset poppy field beside a stone wall. Smaller pages include a single poppy flower with two leaves, three poppies tied with a bow and a puppy wearing a poppy flower collar.
There are 5 easy pages with thick outlines for ages two to four, 7 for ages four to eight and 7 detailed pages for older kids and adults, such as a layered poppy mandala and a cluster of poppies with buds and seed pods. Schools often colour poppies in the week before 11 November for a class display. For more, see the Veterans Day and Remembrance Day pages, the wreath pages and the flower pages.
Each design is its own page with a Letter and an A4 PDF, a description, and related pages, so you can print one sheet or a whole set.
Questions
Why is the poppy a symbol of remembrance?
Red poppies grew across the battlefields of Flanders during the First World War. The Canadian doctor John McCrae wrote about them in his 1915 poem "In Flanders Fields", and the flower became a symbol for remembering those who died.
When is Remembrance Day?
Remembrance Day and Veterans Day fall on 11 November, the anniversary of the 1918 armistice that ended the fighting of the First World War at 11 o'clock in the morning.
How do I colour a poppy?
Use bright red for the petals, a darker red near the centre and black for the middle and stamens. Stems and leaves are a soft green, and seed pods a grey-green.
Can I print on A4 paper?
Yes. Every page has a Letter and an A4 version. Pick the one that matches your printer.
