About these pages
One big flower on each page, with thick outlines and wide petals: three tulips on tall stems, a big round sunflower, a daisy with long petals, a daffodil with a ruffled trumpet and a pansy with big rounded petals. There is a lotus floating on a lily pad, a hibiscus with a long stamen, a rose with a swirled bloom and a poppy with a round seed centre. Friendlier pages include a smiling flower with a happy face, a happy potted sunflower and a flower in a vase.
All 25 pages are easy, made for toddlers and preschoolers aged two to four. Chunky crayons or thick washable markers are easiest for a small fist to grip, and the big petals leave room for whole-arm scribbles. Which easy flower pages have the biggest spaces?
The big round sunflower, the three big five-petal flowers and the flower with big round petals and a tall stem have the widest shapes. They suit first attempts, when a child is still colouring with big, sweeping scribbles.
How can flower pages teach the parts of a plant?
Point to the petals, stem and leaves as your child colours each one. The lily page also shows stamens, the stalks that carry pollen, so older preschoolers can add yellow dots of pollen to the tips.
What colour is a lotus flower?
Most lotus flowers are pink or white, with a yellow seed pod in the middle. The plant roots in the mud of ponds, its round leaves float on the water and each flower rises above the surface on a long stalk.
