About these pages

Friendly octopuses with plenty of arms to colour: a smiling octopus waving curly tentacles, a spotted octopus with curling arms and an octopus with eight curly arms. Others are busy juggling three seashells, reading a book on the sea floor, wearing a little bobble hat, holding an umbrella underwater and hiding inside a glass jar. Alphabet pages, such as O is for octopus and a big letter O with an octopus, help with first letters. The detailed pages show an octopus wrapped around an old anchor and a zentangle octopus full of swirls.

There are 7 easy pages for ages two to four, 13 for ages four to eight and 4 detailed pages for older kids and adults. Counting the arms as each one is coloured is a simple maths moment, and the letter O pages fit a phonics week. For more sea life, see the ocean animal pages, the fish pages and the alphabet pages.

Each design is its own page with a Letter and an A4 PDF, a description, and related pages, so you can print one sheet or a whole set.

Questions

Does an octopus have arms or tentacles?

Scientists call them arms. An octopus has eight, lined with suckers along their length. Tentacles are the two longer limbs that squid and cuttlefish use to catch food, with suckers mainly near the tips.

Can an octopus change colour?

Yes. Its skin holds thousands of colour cells called chromatophores, and it can change colour and pattern in under a second to hide or to signal. So a striped, spotted or rainbow octopus is fair on the page.

Which octopus pages suit early readers?

The alphabet pages, such as O is for octopus and the octopus framed alphabet page, link the letter to a picture. The octopus is pink page adds a colour word for children who are starting to read.

Can I print on A4 paper?

Yes. Every page has a Letter and an A4 version. Pick the one that matches your printer.
