About these pages
Garden vegetables to colour and name: a bell pepper, a head of broccoli, a long eggplant, a radish with leaves, a round beetroot, kale, spinach and three potatoes, each labelled with its name. There are corn cobs peeking from their husks, a garlic bulb, symmetry pages for a red tomato and an orange carrot, and a mixed sheet of okra, celery and beetroot. Scenes show a vegetable garden with a tomato plant, a girl harvesting pumpkins, a wicker basket of autumn vegetables and two children giving a snowman a carrot nose.
Of the 56 pages, 39 are easy, with one vegetable and thick lines for ages two to four, 14 are for ages four to eight and 3 are detailed. The labelled pages come in two styles, plain words and bold capitals, so they double as word cards, and a find-and-colour page asks children to spot the vegetables. For more, see the food pages, the fruit pages and the pumpkin pages.
Each design is its own page with a Letter and an A4 PDF, a description, and related pages, so you can print one sheet or a whole set.
Questions
Are carrots always orange?
No. Carrots also come in purple, yellow, white and red. Early cultivated carrots were mostly purple or yellow, and orange carrots became common in Europe by the 1600s, with Dutch growers doing much to spread them, so any of these colours is right.
How can vegetable pages help with early reading?
Each labelled page shows one vegetable with its name. Children can say the first sound, run a finger under the word, then colour. The corn and tomato alphabet cards and the C is for corn tracing page add letter practice.
Why is it called an eggplant?
Early varieties grown in Europe were small, white and egg-shaped, and the name stuck even though most sold today are dark purple. In Britain the same vegetable is usually called an aubergine.
Can I print on A4 paper?
Yes. Every page has a Letter and an A4 version. Pick the one that matches your printer.
